Jack, and Soriano, Alicia J., Publication_Date: 1996-98 Title: State Parks of Georgia Edition: 1.1 1.2 Datum change from 1927 to 1983 (North American Datum of 1983) Data Re-projected using North American Datum (NAD83) - September 2000 Series_Information Series_Name: Digital Data Series Publication_Information Publication_Place: Atlanta, GA Publisher: U.S. Geological Survey Online_Linkage: http://csat.er.usgs.gov/statewide/layers/st_park.html Description Abstract Data for four additional State parks and State historic sites were added to the database, bringing the total to sixty-three sites. The point location of fifty-nine State parks and State historic sites were collected and located by the U.S. Geological Survey Center for Spatial Analysis Technologies at Georgia Tech and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Division. Team leads for this effort were Jack Alhadeff for USGS and Alicia Soriano for GaDNR. The locations were mapped onto existing 1:100,000 scale maps and digitized from the mylar maps. Purpose 1:500,000 or 1:633360 scale maps portraying park and historic site locations. 1:500,000 or 1:633360 scale maps showing trails, greenways and public areas. Information posters or maps. Regional Analysis or Statewide analysis that require rough buffering or large exclusion zones Supplemental_Information Procedures_Used Initial Development of point database, earlier efforts were geared to a polygon type structure. Because of the size of areas of several historic sites (e.g., historic homes), point data for all 59 sites was developed. The coverage "PUBLAND" contains polygon data for larger features from this coverage. Center of park area was chosen if available. Some maps contained a limited areal representation of the park or historic site, in which case, this point was chosen. Raw data plotted on mylar overlays to existing paper 1:100,000 scale maps. Because of the accuracy requirements needed and time and cost constraints of this project, mylar separated of the 1:100,000 scale maps were not deemed necessary. Data was hand-digitized into 1:100,000 scale templates setup in ARCEDIT using create and the 4-quadrangle tic marks. QA/QC: Digital Data was plotted to 1:100,000 scale by US Geological Survey CSAT staff and compared with mylars. Errors were noted and corrected using ARCEDIT. All 1:100,000 scale sheets were paneled together using append and projected to a national Albers projection (later re-projected to a Georgia based Albers). QA/QC: Individual maps were reviewed externally by Georgia Department of Natural Resources personnel for completeness and accuracy. Missing or misplaced data is corrected using ARCEDIT. Review by US Geological Survey CSAT staff. Attributes (Type and Site Names were key-entered using INFO. QA/QC: Individual maps were reviewed externally by Georgia Department of Natural Resources personnel for completeness and accuracy. Missing or misplaced data is corrected using ARCEDIT. Review by US Geological Survey CSAT staff. Checkplots and final Atlas plots at 1:633,360 were created and visually inspected to insure accuracy of park location and attribute label by US Geological Survey CSAT staff. Final Map products delivered to Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites. 1998 - Using heads-up digitizing and 1:100,000 scale topographic maps four additional sites were added to data base, bringing the total to sixty-three sites. Revisions 1.0 None 1.1 1998 - Four sites added to data base as of 12/1998 Coverage renamed on October 21 1997 from statepark to st_park in preparation for publication to CD-ROM. Reviews_Applied_to_Data A number of technicians, students and professionals all gave a multiple reviews to the data. Primarilly Jeff Buturff and Jerry Cipriani of the USGS performed QA/QC work and Jonathan Musser and Jack Alhadeff of USGS provided oversight to their efforts. Billy Fleming and Alicia Soriano of GaDNR, Parks and Recreation provided cooperative agency review of the data sets. Colleague review June 20, 1996 by Keith McFadden and Jonathan Musser Digital data was reviewed with respect to positional accuracy, contextual accuracy, attribute accuracy, topological consistency, and metadata content. 1. Dataset edited for standard set of statewide tics. 2. Changes made to documentation narrative. 3. Approved by Georgia District Chief, Tim Hale, on June 21, 1996. Related_Spatial_and_Tabular_Data_Sets None (although may existing paper map products produced by Ga DNR contain numerous features which may be used in conjunction with individual park and site names such as: Size, number and type of facilities, recreational activities available (e.g. boat ramps, cabins, beaches) and may other park/site related variables. Positional_Accuracy Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Horizontal positional accuracy is based upon the use of USGS source quadrangles which are compiled to meet National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS). NMAS horizontal accuracy requires that at least 90 percent of points tested are within 0.02 inches of the true position. The digital data are estimated to contain a horizontal positional error of less than or equal to 0.003 inches standard error in the two component directions relative to the source quadrangle. Comparison to the graphic source is used as control to assess digital positional accuracy. Cartographic offsets may be present on the graphic source, due to scale and legibility constraints. Digital map elements require edge alignment between data sets. Data along each partitioned edge internal to the original 100,000 scale quadrangle, and data along the quadrangle edge, are tested against the adjacent data set using PROSYS; tests check for positional accuracy between data sets within a 0.02 inches tolerance. Features with like dimensionality, and with or without like attribution, that are within the tolerance are adjusted by moving the feature equally in both data sets. Features outside the tolerance are not moved. All disconnects are identified by edge matching flags that document the mismatch.
