National Forest Lands

Description

The National Forest boundaries with land ownership attribution was developed from paper 1:24,000 scale U.S. Geological Survey topographic maps. These topographic maps were prepared under the supervision of Dr. Roy Mead, U.S. Forest Service, Regional GIS Coordinator, Atlanta, Georgia. These maps depicted National Forest boundaries of the Chattahoochee and the Oconee National Forests in Georgia.

The data were put into Arc/INFO GIS by digitizing the boundary information overlaying the topographic maps. The ownership information for each polygon, federal or private, was obtained from delineations on the topographic maps.
