Brevard Fault Zone

Description

This database is part of an update of the 1996 Digital Geologic Map of Georgia. This part includes the zone of cataclasis referred to as the Brevard Fault Zone. This zone is shown as an overprint on various geologic map units on the 1976 Geologic Map of Georgia. Other parts of the update of the 1996 Digital Geologic Map of Georgia include a revision of the update of the 1996 Digital Geologic Map of Georgia database, and new, separate databases for structures and diabase dikes.

This database delineates the Brevard Fault Zone as mapped at a scale of 1:500,000, for the state of Georgia and was published by the Georgia Geologic Survey in 1976 as the Geologic Map of Georgia. Some of the area mapped may have been by reconnaissance methods during the year 1973. In other areas the more detailed work of previous authors has been included. In these areas the original authors' maps were field checked (in 1973), and their designations were changed to conform to the general descriptions used in the reconnaissance mapping.
