Science Olympiad 2004

Jack Alhadeff, USGS, coordinated the state finals in "Remote Sensing" held on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Emory University. More than 50 students from 27 high school teams participated in this event.  Jack was ably assisted by Joyce and Daniel Alhadeff (see below).

The top three finishers of the "Remote Sensing" event at the 2004 Georgia State Tournament were: 1. North Springs High School 2. Starr's Mill High School 3. Paideia School

Remote Sensing, formerly known as "From a Distance" (formerly known as "Roads Scholar") is an event that involves the interpretation of aerial photographs, topographic maps, satellite imagery, planimetric maps, radar imagery, and or public records to solve problems relating to natural resources, planning, engineering, and earth science.

Using a combination of these remote sensing products, participants will attempt to identify geologic features, explain physical and human phenomena, and analyze the impact of human and natural activities on the physical environment. Students will be asked to relate a local area or regional physical environment to its cultural landscape.
